From the Berkshire Mountains to Your Teacup

Long before there was White Cloud Tea Company, there was a little girl growing up in New England, a grandmother who loved tea, and the simple comfort of a warm cup of black tea.

I grew up in the Berkshire Mountains, where the seasons seemed to announce themselves.

I remember the crispness of autumn mornings, when the air smelled of fallen leaves and woodsmoke, and the hills were covered in brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold. I remember cold winter days when the snow seemed to quiet the whole world, the windows frosted around the edges, and the warmth of the kitchen was something you could feel the moment you walked through the door.

Spring brought the smell of damp earth and rain, and summer meant long days when everything outside seemed impossibly green.

It was beautiful—but life wasn’t always easy.

We didn’t have a lot. There weren’t endless choices or fancy things. But we had something that didn’t cost much at all: little moments of comfort.

And for me, tea was one of them.

Some of my earliest and sweetest memories of tea are connected to my grandmother.

I can still remember the feeling of those moments—the warmth of the cup in my hands, the comforting aroma of black tea rising with the steam, and the quiet feeling of being together. There was no need for anything elaborate. No fancy afternoon tea. No special occasion.

Just tea.

And my grandmother.

There was something almost magical about how a simple cup of tea could make an ordinary moment feel special.

When you didn’t have a lot, you learned to appreciate the little things. A warm kitchen. A familiar voice. A cozy chair. The sound of conversation. The first sip of something hot on a cold New England morning.

Tea became comfort.

It became connection.

And somewhere along the way, it became a part of me.

My love for black tea especially began during those years. I loved its rich, bold flavor and the way its aroma seemed to fill the room. To this day, there is something about a good cup of black tea that takes me back—not necessarily to one particular day, but to a feeling.

Home.

Family.

Warmth.

Being cared for.

Years later, when I started White Cloud Tea Company, I didn’t realize just how much of that little girl would find her way into what I was creating.

But looking back, I think she was there all along.

Every time I steep a tea, choose a flavor, package an order, or hear from someone who has discovered a new favorite, I think about why I fell in love with tea in the first place.

It was never really just about the tea.

It was about the feeling.

That feeling of being cared for. Of having a few quiet minutes to yourself. Of sharing a conversation with someone you love. Of wrapping your hands around a warm mug while the wind blows outside and feeling, even for a moment, that everything might be okay.

That’s what I want White Cloud Tea Company to bring into your home.

Not just tea—but little moments of comfort.

A cup to start your morning.

A cup to warm you on a chilly afternoon.

A cup to share around the kitchen table.

Or a cup to enjoy when you simply need a moment to yourself.

Whether you’re starting your day with a bold cup of Good Morning Assam, enjoying an Irish-inspired cup of Good Morning Dublin, reaching for something sweet and indulgent, or simply brewing a cup because it feels good, I hope every sip reminds you to slow down and savor the moment.

My journey with tea began in the Berkshire Mountains, surrounded by the sights, smells, and seasons of New England, and sitting beside my grandmother with a simple cup of black tea.

Today, that love has traveled much farther—to my kitchen, to White Cloud Tea Company, and hopefully, to your teacup.

And every time you brew a cup of White Cloud Tea, you become a small part of that story.

From my grandmother’s teacup to yours.

With love,

Lauri
